Living Word began as a call to minister to the Jackson community in 1997. Planted by members of First Immanuel, we began services at Schmidt Funeral Home in downtown Jackson. On October 3, 1999, Living Word became an official congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod with Rev. Timothy Niekerk as our first pastor.
In 2001, the congregation established the Child Development Center (CDC) to meet the need in our community for Christ-centered child care. We were able to move to our current location next to Living Word Lutheran High School. Our congregation remained focused on the Biblical truths we confess in Lutheranism while offering worship in a contemporary manner. We expanded in 2005 to include a multi-purpose room and additional classrooms for the growing daycare. The following year, Rev. Bernhard Huesmann took the call to serve as the second Pastor of Living Word Lutheran Church.
In 2017, our Child Development Center became a partner site in the West Bend School District 4K program, offering morning and afternoon sessions with the opportunity for “Jesus Time” before each class. In August 2020, Rev. Christopher Davis became the third pastor in our nearly 25-year history.
In Spring 2022, 25 years after first hearing God’s call to minister to the people of this community, Living Word Lutheran Church was able to add a spire with a cross to the building. Our hope is that the Lord will use the cross to bring people in the community to this place — to hear the call to repentance and the declaration of His forgiveness.
